[6] A scene from the Carboniferous of Joggins, Nova Scotia where a Hylonomus is shown trying to drag a fresh carcass of a Dendrerpeton from a hollow lycopod tree stump
Description: The artwork depicts a snapshot of a typical scene from the
Carboniferous of Joggins, Nova Scotia where a Hylonomus is shown trying to
drag a fresh carcass of a Dendrerpeton from a hollow lycopod tree stump. The
specific scenario depicted in my artwork is inspired from the disarticulated
early tetrapod fossils remains found within the lycopod tree stump fossils
from the Carboniferous of Joggins, Nova Scotia. The nature of the
disarticulated bones is attributed to the scavenging of the dead animals by
other predators or scavengers which occasionally would also get trapped in
the deep hollow lycopod stumps. Futhermore, the pioneering migrants inside
the lycopod stumps are speculated to have taken refuge during a fire event
and were not able to come out of the stump which acted as a trap.
